Capcom's most underrated RPG could get a sequel

Dragon's Dogma director Hideaki Itsuno has sparked speculation about an upcoming sequel announcement, after retweeting the Capcom Showcase announcement.

The Capcom Showcase, which airs June 13, promises "in-depth news and updates on previously announced Capcom titles." As such, it is believed that we will see recently revealed games like Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4 Remake, we do not expect further confirmation. Still, because Itsuno quickly retweeted this, some take it as an announcement sign.

There's been speculation for years that a sequel to Dragon's Dogma could be in the works, and Itsuno has often said that she'd like to make one. Dogma's expanded version, Dark Arisen, has since been ported to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, not to mention the 2020 anime adaptation on Netflix. Capcom's supposed sequel was also spotted in Nvidia's GeForce Now leak from last year.

Is Dragon's Dogma 2 likely?

Although Dragon's Dogma 2 may not appear in the Capcom Showcase, there is significant evidence to suggest that it will. Crucially, the biggest indicator of a sequel came in November 2020 when the publisher suffered a major ransomware attack (opens in a new tab), revealing future plans until the end of 2024.

Since then, several listed projects have been officially confirmed, including Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil 4 VR, and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles localization. Also on this list - Dragon's Dogma 2.

However, it must be remembered that plans can always change. Even if a sequel was in development two years ago, that doesn't guarantee it will always happen. Still, the evidence for Dragon's Dogma 2's existence is pretty strong, and with the Capcom Showcase, we only have a week until we get an answer.
